The Department of Business Technologies has several programs of study. The Technical programs include Accounting Technology , Computer Information Systems , Cosmetology , Cyber Security and Networking Technology , Data Analytics  , Graphic Design , Logistics and Supply Chain Management  , Management and Entrepreneurship , and Real Estate . Students can graduate with either an Associate of Applied Science degree or a Certificate of Completion. Business Technologies also offers one fully transferable academic degree: Associate of Arts in Business . The Accounting, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Real Estate programs are offered fully online.  Other programs' classes are taught in the traditional face-to-face format, with several courses offered in an online format.

Lamar Institute of Technology requires students to register for the College Success Skills Course (DORI 0200 ) in their first semester. The course is designed to provide students with a thorough orientation to the campus, postsecondary education, and the classroom skills necessary for success. Students that transfer fifteen semester credit hours (15 SCH) from an accredited postsecondary institution with a GPA of 2.0 may be exempt from the College Success Skills Course.

The 60 SCH Accounting Technology Program prepares graduates for a career as an accounting paraprofessional in business, industry, government or public accounting. Students receive instruction in accounting concepts, bookkeeping, computerized accounting, payroll accounting, tax accounting, databases and spreadsheets. The Accounting program is taught fully online.

Students may complete an Associate of Applied Science Degree or a Certificate of Completion by completing the recommended program of study with a "C" or better in all courses.

The 60 SCH Associate of Arts in Business curriculum is designed for those students who wish to take courses for academic transfer in business. This degree provides a Core Curriculum that will transfer to four-year institutions and coincides with the first two years of most baccalaureate business degree plans.

The 60 SCH Computer Information Systems (CIS) Program is designed to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in the field of information technology. Students receive extensive hands-on training in using current software and information technology techniques.

All courses in the Computer Information Systems program must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better.

Students in the Computer Information Systems program must complete all courses in the recommended program of study and complete an approved certification examination in order to graduate. If a student fails to pass the appropriate certification exam prior to the expected graduation date, the student will have one calendar year to pass the exam and reapply for graduation. A graduate of the two-year instructional program is awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree.

Cosmetology

The 30 SCH Cosmetology Operator (COSM) program prepares students for a career in the Cosmetology field. The courses in this program prepare students to meet the licensure requirements set forth by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.  Students in the Cosmetology program will complete courses in hair design, sculpting, coloring, and chemical reformation.  You will also learn customer service, safety and sanitation. Upon completion of the program, graduates will have completed the clock hours required to take the licensing examination administered by the State of Texas.
 
The physical requirements, mental abilities, and intensity of instruction required of Cosmetology Operator (COSM) majors are high. Therefore, all COSM major-specific courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better, or obtain approval of the program director before continuing to take courses as a COSM major. A graduate of this program is awarded a certificate in Cosmetology Operator (COSM).

Culinary Arts

The Culinary Certificate Program is typically structured as an intensive, immersive experience, spanning a duration of 9 months.  Students will acquire a solid foundation in fundamental cooking techniques, including knife skills, food preparation, and various cooking methods. They will also explore the theoretical aspects of culinary arts, including ingredient selection, flavor profiles, food safety, and nutrition. Upon successful completion of the Culinary Certificate Program, graduates will be well-prepared for entry-level positions in various culinary settings, including restaurants, hotels, catering services, and more.

Cyber Security and Networking Technology

The 60 SCH Cyber Security and Networking Technology (CSNT) program prepares students to work with cyber security and cryptography encryption concepts to protect today's vast computer networks while also learning to design, install, operate, and troubleshoot those same systems. Students receive extensive hands-on training in the latest security and encryption methods used in today's information technology environment. CSNT majors learn using laboratory exercises and/or computer simulation exercises in order to develop maximum manipulative skill and competence with the tools, instruments, computers, and related equipment used to manage and protect small to medium network systems. In order for Cyber Security Technology majors to earn the credentials required for their success, they will receive training to earn one or more of the following industry certifications:

  • A+ Certification
  • (ISC)2 Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate 
  • Network+ Certification
  • Security+ Certification
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

The physical requirements and mental abilities, certification expectations, and intensity of instruction required of Cyber Security and Networking Technology (CSNT) majors are high. Therefore, all CSNT major-specific courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better, or obtain approval of the program director before continuing to take courses as a CSNT major. Additionally, CSNT majors must earn an industry certification in one of the following areas prior to graduation: A+, CCNA, Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate, Network+, Security+, and SSCP. If a student does not meet graduation requirements due only to his or her failure to earn the required certification, the student must then meet the certification requirement for graduation within one additional calendar year. Failure to complete certification requirements for graduation within this time limit will require the student to take additional courses and/or repeat courses (as required by the program director) until certification requirements are met. A graduate of this program is awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree. A certificate in Cyber Defense and Support Technology (CDST) is also offered.

The 60 SCH Data Analytics (DATA) program prepares students to work with large sets of data to identify patterns, trends, and insights that can be used to inform business decisions. Students will learn how to gather data from various sources, use software to clean and organize data, and apply statistical methods and models to analyze and interpret results. Students will also study data visualization techniques to effectively communicate insights to stakeholders. Coursework may cover topics such as database management, data mining, machine learning, and business intelligence. Graduates of a data analytics program may be prepared for careers in fields such as finance, marketing, healthcare, and government.

The mental abilities, expectations, and intensity of instruction required of Data Analytics (DATA) majors are high. Therefore, all DATA major-specific courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better, or obtain approval of the program director before continuing to take courses as a DATA major. A graduate of this program is awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree. A certificate in Data Analytics (DATC) is also offered.

Graphic Design

The 60 SCH Graphic Design program prepares students to apply artistic and computer techniques to the interpretation of technical and commercial concepts. The program includes instruction in computer-assisted art and design, digital image processing, design process, art direction, sketching, technical drawing, color theory, imaging, multimedia applications, and communication skills. The Graphic Design program includes courses in typography, brand identity, web design, motion design, and portfolio development. Student also receive extensive hands-on training in the latest industry software and equipment.

Upon successful completion of the Recommended Program of Study for the Graphic Design program, a student is awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree in Graphic Design. A student may also earn a Certificate in Graphic Design following the recommended program of study.

All courses within the Graphic Design program must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Logistics and Supply Chain Management

The 60 SCH Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) program focuses on the management of the entire process involved in moving a product from the manufacturer to the end customer. This process includes procurement, transportation, warehousing, inventory management, packaging, and delivery, among others. The program aims to provide students with knowledge and skills required to optimize supply chain operations, reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance customer satisfaction.

The coursework includes classes in operations management, transportation management, inventory management, supply chain strategy, and material handling, among others. Graduates of this degree program can pursue roles in industries such as manufacturing, retail, healthcare, and technology. Some of the common job titles for graduates include logistics manager, supply chain analyst, transportation coordinator, procurement specialist, and warehouse manager.

All courses within the Logistics and Supply Chain Management program must be completed with a grade of "C" or better. A graduate of this program is awarded the Associate of Applied Science degree. A certificate in Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LMGT) is also offered.

Management and Entrepreneurship

The 60 SCH Management and Entrepreneurship Program assists students in developing fundamental skills, knowledge, attitudes and experience, enabling them to function in decision-making positions as supervisors or managers. The electives built into this program allow students from various backgrounds to gain management skills to help advance their career or to add to previously acquired credentials.  Technical credits from other fields or work experience may be applied to this degree as approved by the Program Director or Department Chair.

Upon successful completion of the recommended program of study for the Management and Entrepreneurship Program, a student is awarded a Management and Entrepreneurship, A.A.S. A student may also earn a Management and Entrepreneurship certificate following completion of the recommended program of study.

All courses within the Management Development program must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.

Real Estate

The 60 SCH Real Estate Program is designed to prepare students to enter the real estate industry in the fields of real estate sales, appraisal, brokerage, finance and title insurance. The program is designed for individuals entering the real estate industry, as well as for those who wish to expand their professional knowledge. Real Estate courses may be taken to satisfy the educational requirements of the Texas Real Estate Commission for salespersons' licenses and renewals. Real Estate courses also will help satisfy the educational requirements of the Texas Appraisal Licensing and Certifications Board.

Upon successful completion of the recommended program of study for Real Estate, a student is awarded a Real Estate A.A.S. (RES) . After successful completion of twenty-one (21) semester credit hours of real estate courses, a student is awarded a Real Estate Certificate (RESC) .

All courses within the Real Estate program must be completed with a grade of "C" or better.
