The Utility Line Technology Certificate Program prepares students to work in the power line industry as apprentice linemen. The curriculum includes the design and function of electric generation, transmission and distribution systems, substations, transformers, capacitors, voltage regulators, system protection, and metering. Program objectives include troubleshooting outages and voltage problems; identification and use of tools, materials, equipment; proper work and safety procedures; and operation of utility line trucks. The Utility Line Technology Program is thirty-two (32) weeks in length and begins each year in August. The Utility Line Technology Program is taught at the Frank Robinson Center in Silsbee, Texas.

The 60 SCH Utility Line and Management Technology program will provide a supervisory and management pathway for students interested in pursuing career advancement opportunities in the field of Utility Line Technology. The degree is designed with the existing Utility Line Technology Certificate and additional management and supervisory courses.

Students interested in the certificate program must score a 4 in the WorkKeys Workplace Documents and Applied Math. Students interested in the degree program must meet TSI requirements. Contact the Testing Center at 409-880-8687 or testingcenter@lit.edu for more information about testing.

Interested students must be able to climb tall utility poles, handle highly energized utility lines, and be eligible to earn a Texas Commercial Driver's License.

Students who successfully complete the recommended program of study will receive a Certificate in Utility Line Technology or A.A.S. in Utility Line and Management Technology.

Students must successfully complete an OSHA certification exam. All courses in the Recommended Program of Study require a grade of 'C' or better.
